Easy Mountain Hike at Dagali – Big Views with Little Effort in Norway
A short and family-friendly easy mountain hike from Vasstulan with panoramic views over Hardangervidda.
Driving across Dagalifjell, you’ll find Vasstulan at 1100 meters above sea level – a perfect stop whether you’re traveling by car or campervan. With a large gravel parking lot right by the café and restaurant, this is an easy place to stretch your legs, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy a short hike with surprisingly big rewards.

Dagali is located in the western part of Buskerud in Norway, at the entrance to the Numedal valley and only a short drive from the famous ski resort of Geilo. Here you are right on the edge of the vast Hardangervidda mountain plateau, making Dagali a natural stopping point when traveling between Eastern and Western Norway.

The Short Mountain Hike to Djupegrønuten (1206 m)
From the parking area, a small trail leads towards Djupegrønuten, a nearby peak rising just above Vasstulan. The hike is short – about 2 km round trip – with only 100 meters of elevation gain. You’ll see the stone cairn (varde) on the top, and most of the route is gentle mountain terrain, with only one slightly steeper section near the end.

After just 30 minutes of walking (including photo stops), you’ll find yourself standing by the cairn, rewarded with 360-degree views over Dagalifjell and the endless Hardangervidda plateau. On clear days, the horizon feels infinite – and spotting your campervan far below is part of the fun.
